When I left school I found alternative sports likes Skateboarding and BMX a great way to expend my energy and gain focus on what I wanted to do with my life. I grew up riding in rural areas and have first hand experience of the frustrations involved with having a pass time that can often be overlooked by the local community and authorities. Ramped was born from that desire to give young people, like myself, the opportunity and provision to freely express themselves through alternative sports with focus on those who have little or no access to such facilities.
My background is in Graphic design and photography enabling marketing and promotions of events, activities and sponsors can be easily coordinated and carried out. I have volunteered and worked as a Youth Worker alongside Aaron Hines and Mike Jeffrey (he trained us) for over a decade. This experience has proven vital for engaging with people, communities, local authorities and business partners to establish the Ramped project and achieve it’s aim to deliver alternative sports to young people.

Ramped is a great project to be involved in, when I was younger I would (try!) to ride a banana board and despite numerous failed attempts had great fun giving it a go. Having built up a youth project involving skateboarding and BMXing, it gives me a real buzz to be able to offer young people the chance to have a go at these activities even if they don’t have access to the equipment personally. Tim and Aaron were members of the original Skateboard and BMX project I helped to establish and its great to be working alongside them in delivering Ramped.
Having trained as a teacher, I took up a post as a Youth Worker and have worked in a variety of youth projects over 25 years. I try hard to build relationships with people in order to listen to their thoughts and ideas. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects from foreign exchanges to small festivals, and have always tried to involve people in these. I’ve looked to obtain funding for projects, I’ve looked to work together with other organisations/people to make things happen, I’ve supported full time , part time and voluntary staff, I’ve delivered training in a number of situations and I’ve taken part in local theatrical performances on Sculptural Bonfires (before they are lit)!

Ramped is a dream job, it enables me to promote the pastime I love to people who really appreciate what we do whilst getting to ride around and have fun at the same time. I have been riding BMX for over 20 years.
My profession involves technical problem solving and large structure fabrication, skills which translate perfectly to the maintenance of the equipment used by the Ramped project and skills I am alway eager to pass on. I have also been involved in Youth Work for over ten years gaining skills invaluable to working and communicating with young people.
